The largely untapped Digital Mirror Opportunity is driven by the unique location of the rear view mirror in the car. This location is commensurate with the line of sight in the car’s driving direction, easy and safe accessibility of displayed information, simple installation and replacement, and common location among different vehicles.
AlphaMirror’s innovative, miniaturized Digital Mirror™ technology, while automatically protecting driver vision in all travel conditions, enables the additional integration of other electronics features such as: Multimedia Gateway, Car Phones, Radar/Laser Detectors, Hands-Free Kits, XM Radio, Navigation Systems, and more in the product package.
AlphaMirror Ltd. is a joint venture of Elbit Systems Ltd. and AlphaMicron Inc. Elbit Systems Ltd. is a Publicly traded Israeli company that serves a number of technology industries and has yearly sales of approximately $1 billion. AlphaMicron is a US Developer and Manufacturer of products using patented LCD Technology.
AlphaMirror Ltd. was formed to create and market products using an LCD-based Digital Mirror™ platform that was developed by the two venture partners. This unique platform will be used as the basis for an ongoing line of innovative products initially targeting the Mobile Electronics Market and the Vehicle Accessories Aftermarket, and later the OEM Vehicle Industry.
During the last three years AlphaMicron and Elbit Systems used a $2 million investment to qualify the Digital Mirror-Based Technology. Currently this technology meets automotive specification requirements and is ready for commercialization.
Markets
AlphaMirror’s markets can be segmented into two general applications groups: Rear View Mirrors for Automotive\Truck\Motorcycle, and Mobile Electronics Applications based on the Digital Mirror™ platform. Alternatively, the segments can also be segmented as Aftermarket/Accessories and OEM.
In each segment AlphaMirror technology offers the development of products with superior performance, very low price, and no direct competition.
Also, many of the company’s future markets have had very attractive margins historically.
Sourcing and Production
The company is currently qualifying LCD Manufacturing Subcontractors for high volume production. In three months it will be capable of manufacturing the first products through these parties in China. AlphaMirror is a fabless company, and thus the entire hardware assembly will be outsourced.
Next Steps: Short- and Long Term
Six Month Plan – Market Rollout and Ramp-Up of Initial Product
AlphaMirror will complete the development of the add-on Digital Mirror™ Product and introduce it at a price competitive enough to encourage early adoption.
This initial foray will prove the company’s technical capabilities, establish market presence, and encourage exposure to new opportunities.
