The Israeli company EMEFCY, which works on commercial aspects of microbial fuel cells, is expected to initiate a pilot project within the city of Michigan. The technology developed by the EMEFCY can generate energy from wastewater, which can then be used in industrial wastewater treatment plants and the food-processing industry, as well as in the agricultural community, and is expected to reduce high energy costs from treatment of wastewater in addition to reducing the “carbon footprint” of operations.
The pilot project follows meetings held by Lieutenant Governor John D. Cherry, Jr with CEOs from 20 prominent water technology companies from Israel as part of an initiative towards basing their operations in Michigan. The company technology is intended to be used within the industrial, agricultural and municipal wastewater facilities, with hopes that it will assist in reduction of energy costs for plants all throughout Michigan, MfrTech.com reported.
