Israeli scientists say they have discovered that light exposure and possibly photosynthesis might be helping bacteria to become internalized by lettuce leaves. According to UPI, researchers at the Tel Aviv University and Israel's Agricultural Research Organization said photosynthesis internalization would make disease-causing bacteria, such as salmonella, impervious to washing. The joint study will be featured in the October issue of the Journal of Applied and Environmental Microbiology.
